Make & Bake began in my kitchen in 2021 and has grown one order, one market and one dessert at a time.
A little bit about us
Make & Bake by Qwizzy started in my kitchen in 2021, mostly because I loved baking and apparently had a habit of feeding people.
I grew up in a family where food was always at the centre of things. There was always something cooking, someone eating, and usually a lot of talking around the table. Food was how we celebrated, caught up, looked after each other and, sometimes, solved absolutely nothing but made everyone feel better anyway.
So when I started baking for family and friends, it felt pretty natural. What I didn't expect was how quickly those little orders would turn into something bigger.
People started coming back for their favourites, recommending me to their friends and asking for cakes for birthdays, celebrations and everything in between. Somewhere along the way, Make & Bake stopped being something I simply did and became a business I genuinely wanted to build.
Today, I make Filipino-inspired desserts from my East Auckland kitchen, from our much-loved Sans Rival and ube desserts to buko pie, cookies, cakes and whatever else I decide to bake next.
I keep things intentionally small and work with a limited number of orders so I can focus on making things properly rather than simply making more of them.
It's still just me behind a lot of it, with plenty of help along the way. There are early mornings, late nights, market pack-ins, pack-outs, mountains of dishes and the occasional "why did I decide to do this?" moment. But there are also customers coming back for the same dessert years later, messages telling me how much they loved something, and seeing our desserts become part of someone's celebration.
That's the part I love most.
Make & Bake is a small business, built from my kitchen and grown one order at a time. I'm still learning, still experimenting and still making way too many things for one person to keep track of.
